The exhibition will be held at the magical “ Giardini Ravino “, a recently established botanical garden, anchored to the concept of bio diversity .
The gardens are to be found embedded in one of the most beautiful environments on the sunny side of the island of Ischia , one of the most important tourist destinations in the south of Italy . An unconventional and remarkable place which allows room for communication amongst herbs, bushes, exceptional trees and exotic plants.
Arisen from the endless naturalistic passion of the owner, Giuseppe D'Ambra, the garden not only distinguishes itself through its botanical rarities and stately cacti, but also by its accuracy in cell culture and the originality of its landscape.
A fascinating and enchanting scenery is revealed immediately upon entering. Soaring“ trichocereus”, tall enough to block out the sun, dominant black hills of basalt, offering little shade, confused in extravagant geometrical design, only interrupted here and there by an explosion of fierce cacti.
The garden was developed on a plot of land of approx. 6000 Sq. Mt. in Citara, part of the township of Forio, bought by the team of the gardens in 2001, and has become the home of this extraordinary collection of cacti, evidence to over 40 years of passion of the owner.” To open my botanical garden is my dream come true. Our passion accompanies us throughout our lives “ This is what Giuseppe D'Ambra sustains who, with the support of his two sons and that of Aniello Ascanio, a promising landscapist, began the hard work of transforming the pure land into terraces and into a new word of greenery and colours. Enormous amounts of earth had to moved from one place to another,…….the old stone walls so-called “parracine “had to restored by the “ parracinai”, artisan and craftsmen, still skilled in the ancient trade of building dry stone walls .In 2003 the first cacti were planted in their new model home and work began on the old“ cellaio “, an antique barn structure, which today is completely restored and houses of a wonderful lounge café. In 2004 the completion of the cascade and rivulets and its surrounding Mediterranean vegetation came about. Now, in 2007, initiation of work on the underground garden has began…. And it doesn't end here!! After all, as we say, “A finished garden is a dead garden……….”
